The Point Resort
Winter Activities
Winter is truly a special time at The Point, as the snow-covered landscape and frozen lake provide a pristine backdrop for invigorating outdoor adventures. Come in from the cold and curl up in a comfy chair in front of a gentle fire with your favorite book; retreat to our Adirondack pub for a game of pool, darts, backgammon, chess or cards; or snuggle up and watch a classic black-and-white movie.
CROSS-COUNTRY SKIING
Head off across snow-covered Upper Saranac Lake or on nearby groomed or wilderness trails. To capture the Olympic spirit, try the trails at Mt. Van Hoevenberg outside Lake Placid.
DOWNHILL SKIING
The Olympic slopes at Whiteface Mountain (50 minutes) are among the best in the East. Whiteface's 3,216-foot vertical drop - the highest in the East - draws world-class athletes from far and wide.
ICE SKATING
Glide around on our lake, join in an impromptu hockey game or head to the Olympic speed skating oval or indoor rink in Lake Placid.
SNOWSHOEING
A wonderful way to experience the beauty and silence of the Adirondacks in winter. It's easy to learn, and we have all the equipment you will need.
ICE FISHING
The Point has its own ice fishing shanty, and our chef will be happy to prepare your catch.
SNOW BARBECUES
Out on the point beside a roaring fire, a memorable lunch experience. Wear your warm clothes and boots.
ANTIQUING
There are plenty of places to poke around in the villages of Lake Placid and Saranac Lake, all filled with rustic arts and crafts created by area artisans.
OLYMPIC FACILITIES
The Olympic facilities in nearby Lake Placid offer the only public bobsled and luge runs in the country, tobogganning, dog sledding, speed skating, ski jumping, alpine ski competitions, international hockey and figure skating, aerial competitions, and the oldest Winter Carnival in the East during the month of February.
We provide cross-country skis, poles and boots; snowshoes; ice fishing equipment; ice skates, hockey sticks and pucks. We do suggest that if you have your own skis and ice skates you bring them along.
